Return to Red Cedar Falls III
Another photograph of Red Cedar Falls, in Dorrigo National Park near Never Never Land from last weekend. On this hike I took all of my cameras: the Blad, the IR 5D2 and the 1Ds Mark III, the latter being the camera which I used for this shot. This was because I used the 24mm Tilt+Shift lens to make what I call a '3-shot shift' image - hence the square format, and the adaptor I acquired for the Blad to be used with that lens (and all my other Canon Tilt+Shift lenses) is not a perfect match. As well, since I only have the 38mm Hasselblad lens, the location deserved wider options. With 3 lenses as well and 2 litres of water plus assorted gear, it all made for a heavy pack on that Never Ending Track, aka Outdoor Weight Loss Program. The 1Ds Mark III was the top-of-the range Canon DSLR when it was released, in 2008. I got it cheap a few years after that, but hey, it's still an awesome camera despite having only 14% of the Blad's mexapixel count. Whilst I carry on about the difficulty rating of the hike down to Red Cedar Falls, the reality is that the falls are in the perfect shooting location - at the bottom of a steep, narrow, gorge where the sun doesn't make an impression on the face of the falls, which makes it easier to control the light hitting the camera's sensor and bring out the details, whilst at the same time respecting the areas in shadow to give the image depth and allow the light from the water hitting that awesome boulder to do its magic.
