Early morning mainline steam. A rare happening in this part of Sussex... so a pre-breakfast brief trek to the local foot crossing an attempt to capture today's Bath/Bristol Christmas market special... Stanier Black-5 No. 44871 giving it the beans accelerating down the gradient from its pick-up stop at Haywards Heath in freezing (and very dull) conditions. Pushed the camera to ISO25600 for this one, but it seems to have come out ok with a little post processing, and this time, I tried a colour version with some work to warm the tones despite the cool colours in the morning mist,

CUADERNO DE APRENDIZAJE:
Se han realizado los ajustes básicos en Camera RAW y posteriormente se ha pasado la fotografía a Photoshop CC donde se le han realizado diversos ajustes.
Con el Panel de Tony Kuyper se han realizado ajustes sobre las máscaras de luminosidad de Niveles y Curvas sobre luces y sombras.
Con Photoshop CC utilizando la acción del maestro José María Mellado, experto en Photoshop, se ha aplicado un enfoque según textura.
Se ha utilizado un polarizador B+W para eliminar los reflejos en superficies no metálicas y saturar los colores.
Se ha utilizado en Photoshop CC el filtro Nik 6 Color Efex.

TRUCO DE VIEJO ROQUERO:
En esta fotografía, el polarizador me ha servido para dos cosas, eliminar brillos no metálicos y saturar colores, que es su cometido, pero también me ha echado una mano, a pesar de ser el mejor polarizador que existe y sólo restar 1 paso ó 1 y 1/2 de luz, me ha servido para ralentizar la escena y bajar un poquito más la velocidad del obturador, con ello le he podido dar un aspecto más sedoso al agua del Océano Atlántico y difuminar un pelín más las nubes.

Red-tailed Hawk Grabs the TIPPY TOP!
During a bout of gusting winds this Red-tailed hawk manages to land and hang onto the tippy top of a Spruce or Pine tree during a bit of back roading this week....nice to get out and even if I wasn't hiking , always good to get fresh air and see some fall scenery!!

Sings us a song...These are quite common in the summer months in the region of Eastern Ontario where I live but I always enjoy seeing and photographing them...they remind me of little bandits!! Flitting and singing they're definitely a bright spot in the day!.Their range includes Mexico and further south into Central America and parts of the Caribbean.

RAF Museum Cosford's Bristol Britannia 312, G-AOVF, painted as XM497 "Schedar" or Royal Air Force Support Command.

Built 1957 for British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) as G-AOVT, before moving under lease to British Eagle in March 1964, later being converted to a freighter in 1968. British Eagle ceased trading in November 1968 and she was returned to BOAC. In 1970 she was purchased by Monarch and leased to Donaldson International Airways, later flying with IAS Cargo Airlines, Invicta, IAC Cargo Airlines of Zaire (registered as 9Q-CAZ) and finally Merchant Air of New Zealand.
Sold to the RAF Museum and flown to Cosford on 31st May 1984. In 1985 she was repainted in genuine BOAC colours as part of the British Airways Collection, but when the Collection was disbanded she remained at Cosford and has now been painted to represent an RAF Britannia C.1

Perched on a rocky peak, 750 metres above sea level, legend tells that Stavrovouni Monastery was founded in the 4th century by St. Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine the Great, who left a relic of the Holy Cross at the monastery.

Brown Creeper
This is a Brown creeper....a tiny 5 inch long Woodland bird that was foraging amongst some deciduous trees alongside a trail in Lanark County , Eastern Ontario on this grey, cool Fall day. Really low light levels but happily managed this frame! Tiny and twitchy, its rewarding to glimpse the cool plumage that helps to camouflage this insect eater. It was amazingly quiet out there today...other than the half dozen Red-tailed Squirrels there was very little bird activity...These are common in our part of North America, they're seen here year round! I think their plumage is really cool , their camouflage is another of natures wonder's. To see the plumage well best magnify and look...I LOVE the detail in its feathers!

Female Merlin ( I THINK )
OK I definitely know its a Merlin...I am pretty sure its female...I had spent fifteen minutes with this beauty while it feasted on a small bird ( Ill spare you the gore) and in this frame it is resting and satisfied after eating a meal. I was roadside and stopped on he shoulder of a fairly active highway. These are fairly common in Eastern Ontario, its always a pleasure to spend time with one and get to photograph one.

The storks are black and white looking from afar, but not so much so up close and depending on how the light is striking them, here revealing their iridescent feathers.

Wood Storks nest in trees above standing water. They build nests in cypress swamps, in oaks in flooded impoundments, in mangroves, and in flooded areas with black gum and Australian pine. Almost any tree or shrub will do as long as standing water is present.

Rascacielos en el Paseo de la Castellana en Madrid-España
Cuatro Torres Business Área en Madrid en la Hora Azul.
Ahora son cinco Torres: Torre de Cristal (249 metros) finalizada en 2009, Torre Cepsa (248 metros) finalizada en 2009, Torre PwC (236 metros) finalizada en 2008, Torre Espacio (224 metros) finalizada en 2007 y finalmente la quinta Torre llamada Caleido (181 metros) finalizada en 2021.
Estas Torres se encuentran en el Parque Empresarial de Madrid en el Paseo de la Castellana.
Son los rascacielos más altos de España y conforman el Skyline de Madrid la capital de España.

When the northern lights ruin a Milky way photo shoot!
The conditions for Milky way shooting were forecasted to be perfect last night. Then the Northern lights showed up and ruined everything! The NLs were so strong that the purple and red colours were visible with naked eyes. Didn´t need long exposures. This pic is a combination of 3 pictures for a pano.

Aquí no hay Hora azul ni Hora dorada que valga, hay que estar 2 horas antes de la bajamar.
El miércoles 10 de octubre la bajamar era de -2 metros a las 11:53 horas. Casi dos horas antes ya estábamos en la playa.
CUADERNO DE APRENDIZAJE:
Se han realizado todos los ajustes en Camera Raw. Se ha aplicado una Gradación de color consistente en aplicar un tono anaranjado a las luces y un cian (H:255 S:50) a las sombras.

Pienso que la masificación de gente paseando degrada y erosiona las rocas. Se ha prohibido pasear por encima de los acantilados de la playa con el fin de evitar desprendimientos.
La naturaleza se está degradando por los humanos sin que los políticos hagan nada al respecto; los políticos no sirven para nada, había que prescindir de ellos y ahorrar sus elevados salarios.

Playa de Augas Santas, conocida como Playa de las Catedrales en Ribadeo-Lugo.
Esta playa la conocí hace muchos años como una playa solitaria, hoy en día está masificada.
Se producen desprendimientos de rocas, hay carteles que avisan del peligro.
Pienso que la masificación de gente paseando degrada y erosiona las rocas. Se ha prohibido pasear por encima de los acantilados de la playa con el fin de evitar desprendimientos.
La naturaleza se está degradando por los humanos sin que los políticos hagan nada al respecto; los políticos no sirven nada, había que prescindir de ellos y ahorrar sus elevados salarios.
CUADERNO DE APRENDIZAJE:
Se han realizado todos los ajustes en Camera RAW y posteriormente se ha pasado la fotografía a Photoshop CC donde se le han realizado diversos ajustes.
Se ha utilizado en Photoshop CC el filtro Contraste Tonal de Nik 6 Color Efex al 40%.
Se ha utilizado un polarizador B+W para dar color al cielo, eliminar los reflejos del agua y saturar los colores de las rocas.

Acrometopa macropoda is a species belonging to the family Tettigoniidae subfamily Phaneropterinae. It is found in southern Europe approximately from Trieste on both sides of the Adriatic coast - Italy and Yugoslavia and to the south Greece and the Dinaric Mountains . It prefers dry grasslands and wastelands with loose bushes or higher-growing plants, such as thistles. Taxonomy- may be a subspecies of Acrometopa servillea.

La Iglesia de San Juan de los Panetes en Zaragoza
La Iglesia de San Juan de los Panetes es un templo de culto católico de estilo barroco ubicado en Zaragoza, Aragón, España. Está situada junto a la Plaza del Pilar —o Plaza de las Catedrales— y a la Fuente de la Hispanidad. También se encuentra muy próxima al Torreón de la Zuda. Está catalogada como Bien de Interés Cultural y monumento nacional.
Su construcción se terminó en 1725, coincidiendo con la eclosión del barroco en la ciudad y el ánimo de mejorar las ya para entonces decadentes muestras de otros estilos —gótico y mudéjar—, lo que llevó a renovar las catedrales de la Seo y el Pilar. El principal motivo de la renovación fue sustituir la destruida iglesia de la Orden de San Juan de Jerusalén.
En 2013 se inicia un proceso de reforma en el entorno del templo y de la zona de las Murallas Romanas, impulsada por Tranvía de Zaragoza y coincidiendo con la construcción de la Línea 1 de dicho medio de transporte. La consultora IDOM/ACTX realiza el proyecto inicial, sobre una propuesta de la SEM Los Tranvías de Zaragoza y en su concepción se cuenta con un proceso de participación ciudadana a través de 2.700 aportaciones.
En la iglesia de San Juan de los Panetes, tras la autorización del Departamento de Patrimonio, se renueva la escalinata, ampliando sus dimensiones de lado a lado de la iglesia, con piedra de La Puebla de Albortón, reafirmando un amplio graderío orientado al norte, en una obra ejecutada por Ideconsa. Tiene una forma de abanico más abierto ligeramente del lado oeste, hacia las Murallas. Junto con la reforma de la iluminación, la iglesia y toda su zona ha disfrutado de una gran mejora y presencia urbana.

The Church of San Juan de los Panetes is a baroque-style Catholic temple of worship located in Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain. It is located next to the Plaza del Pilar - or Plaza de las Catedrales - and the Fuente de la Hispanidad. It is also very close to the Torreón de la Zuda. It is classified as an Asset of Cultural Interest and a national monument.
Its construction was completed in 1725, coinciding with the emergence of the Baroque in the city and the desire to improve the already decadent examples of other styles - Gothic and Mudejar -, which led to the renovation of the cathedrals of La Seo and El Pilar. The main reason for the renovation was to replace the destroyed church of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem.
In 2013, a reform process began in the area around the temple and the area of the Roman Walls, promoted by the Zaragoza Tram and coinciding with the construction of Line 1 of said means of transport. The consulting firm IDOM/ACTX carried out the initial project, based on a proposal from the SEM Los Tranvías de Zaragoza and in its conception there was a process of citizen participation through 2,700 contributions.
In the church of San Juan de los Panetes, after authorization from the Department of Heritage, the staircase is renewed, expanding its dimensions from side to side of the church, with stone from La Puebla de Albortón, reaffirming a large north-facing stands, in a work executed by Ideconsa. It has a more open fan shape slightly on the west side, towards the Walls. Along with the lighting renovation, the church and its entire area has enjoyed a great improvement and urban presence.

Con Photoshop CC utilizando la acción del maestro José María Mellado, experto en Photoshop, se ha aplicado un enfoque según textura.
En algunas fotos se ha utilizado en Photoshop CC el filtro Nik Collection Nik 6 Color Efex y en otras el filtro Nik 6 Silver Efex.

IMPORTANTE ACLARACIÓN:
En las fotografías en B/N con una acabado virado al Selenio, se ha utilizado una capa de Curvas para modificar la Curva de Rojos, Verdes y Azules.
Una vez la fotografía ha tomado un acabado al Selenio, se ha realizado una modificación en la Luminosidad con una capa de Gris al 50%.
En el cuarto oscuro, la imagen absorbía más cantidad de tinte en las zonas oscuras que en las claras, para elllo se ha tenido que hacer una selección de la fotografía y las selecciones en Photoshop son de 8 bits.
Como la imagen es de 16 bits, en realidad es de 12 bits pero Photoshop las toma como de 16 bits, para copiar en la máscara de capa una selección de la imagen y no perder los 16 bits, se ha aplicado la selección con Imagen/Aplicar imagen.

En su interior se venera la imagen mariana de la virgen del Pilar, imagen gótica del siglo XV, de 35 cm de altura.
Río Ebro, el más caudaloso de España, pasa al lado de la Catedral de Zaragoza.

Plaza de las Catedrales en Zaragoza
La Plaza de Nuestra Señora del Pilar o simplemente Plaza del Pilar es uno de los centros populares más concurridos en Zaragoza, España. En ella se encuentra la Catedral-Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, donde es venerada la advocación mariana homónima. Es conocida con el sobrenombre de «el salón de la ciudad», ya que en ella se realizan numerosas fiestas públicas. También suele llamársele Plaza de las Catedrales, pues aquí se encuentran las dos catedrales de Zaragoza: la Seo y el Pilar. A la plaza se accede por medio de las calles Don Jaime I y Alfonso I.
En esta plaza se encuentran, además de la Basílica del Pilar, edificios como la Lonja, el Ayuntamiento, la Fuente de la Hispanidad, la Catedral del Salvador (La Seo), algunos juzgados y el Monumento a Goya. Se halla también, cerca de la Lonja, el cenotafio del pintor Francisco de Goya.

The striped marlin (Kajikia audax) is a species of marlin found in tropical to temperate Indo-Pacific oceans not far from the surface. Epipelagic and oceanic species, usually found above the thermocline, but unlike species it ventures more readily into higher latitudes, tolerating temperate waters. The species is strongly oceanic, rarely entering coastal waters, and is most often seen near islands, seamounts and boundary currents where it feeds and breeds.The striped marlin is a predator that hunts during the day in the top 100 m or so of the water column, often near the surface. One of their chief prey is sardines but also wide variety of fishes like mackerel, crustaceans, and squids.
The Striped Marlin consists of 42-48 rays on its tall first dorsal fin that is almost the same or longer than its body depth while the second dorsal fin is much smaller. They have torpedo-like and compressed bodies. They have around 10-20 clear, visible bluish stripes on the sides of their bodies even after death. Stripes consist of cobalt blue dots or narrow bands. First dorsal fin dark blue, other fins usually brown.The color of their bodies is dark blue or black above and silvery-white on the bottom. Striped Marlin has an average length of 2.9 m and a maximum length of 4.2 m and can weight up to 220 kg.
Striped Marlin reached sexual maturity at an age of one or two years or 1.4 m for males and two or three years or 1.8 m for females. They can live up to at least 10 year. About reproduction Eggs is approximately one mm in diameter, but exact size not known. Larvae occur in sub-equatorial waters, in temperatures above 24 degrees.
Mainly targeted via surface longlines in the commercial fishery. The species is also a popular recreational target. Recent stock assessments indicate a declining Pacific stocks, with commercial catch rates falling and the average size of fish captured decreasing. IUCN Red List Status for this fish is Near Threatened (NT).

After a fantastic week contemplating and photographing the northern lights (the second week in Lofoten I had no luck due to the completely overcast skies), with 3 wonderful and very active nights (I will post a lot of pictures in the next weeks), this would be the last night I was able to enjoy them for a few minutes.
I had rented a nice apartment at the end of the fjord, with a terrace with the perfect orientation. While I was still adjusting the framing and the camera settings, the first lights appeared. Sadly, the show ended quickly as the sky became completely cloudy in less than 10 minutes.

Brown Birch Bolete (Leccinum scabrum) 4734
Another specimen in Bolehill Quarry that had been nibbled at. This edible and common species is associated with Birch trees either singly or in clumps. One of it's features is it's club shaped stem. The cap can be on average between 5-20cm wide. This one was at the base of a Silver Birch tree.

Hurricane spitting fire. James Brown's Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 R4118, is the only surviving Hurricane to have taken part in the Battle of Britain in 1940. Registered as G-HUPW, it carries the code UP-W of 605 County of Warwick Squadron in which during August of 1940, it flew 49 sorties from Croydon during the Battle of Britain and shot down or damaged five enemy aircraft.
In June 2001 the airframe was safely delivered to Hawker Restorations in Suffolk. Meticulous attention was paid to make sure Hurricane R4118 was restored to her 1940 condition exactly as she had been flown in the Battle of Britain. The original Browning .303 machine guns were reconditioned before being de-activated and refitted. The airframe was covered in original Irish linen and painted by Vintage Fabrics. The early Merlin III engine was rebuilt by Maurice Hammond and the Rotol propeller was constructed by Skycraft. Some three and a half years later her restoration was completed and she flew again for the first time post restoration just before Christmas in 2004.
Ten years later after many appearances at UK airshows she was put up for sale with a £2m price tag. Despite fears she would be sold abroad, in September 2015 Hurricane R4118 was purchased by British aviation enthusiast and software entrepreneur James Brown and moved to Shuttleworth’s Old Warden Aerodrome.
James also bought Harvard IIB G-CIUW that I undertook the prototype design assessment and documentation of for its UK Permit to Fly.

Peaceful Injection

Had the opportunity to do some photo work Thursday. After finishing the action photo work that needed to be done for this event, I began walking back to where the second phase of this job was to occur. During my journey I crossed this tiny walk bridge and looked off to my right and this was staring back.
This location was just like mainlining an injection of peace straight into my brain.
Enjoy and remember to always take the moment to soak in the healing powers of nature, even when you don't think you need it...you need it!

Forth Rail Bridge
Taken from North Queensferry.
3 long exposures blended to extinguished rain drops on my ND filter.
Was able to delete from most area's other than the bridge structure itself.
It stopped rain whilst setting up but caught me out part way through exposure.
Grabbed my unbrella halfway through my second attempt but still had rain on that exposure.
Third attempt was much better and looked like the structure was ok till looking at it in development.
So deleted what i could and the blend has worked ok for the structure.
1.5-mile-long red railway bridge, opened in 1890 & crossing the Forth estuary.

Se han realizado los ajustes en Camera RAW y posteriormente se ha pasado la fotografía (de 16 bits) a Photoshop CC como objeto inteligente donde se le han realizado diversos ajustes. La fotografía es de 12 bits pero Photoshop la trata como si fuera de 16 bits.
Con el Panel de Tony Kuyper se han realizado ajustes sobre las máscaras de luminosidad de Luces, Medios Tonos y Sombras utilizando Curvas.
Con Photoshop CC utilizando la acción del maestro José María Mellado, experto en Photoshop, se ha aplicado un enfoque según textura.
Se han utilizado en Photoshop CC filtros de Nik Collection.

Steam Donkey - Lindsay Park
Workmen put the finishing touches on the steam donkey newly on display at Lindsay Park while a local artist documents the events. This very steam donkey was once part of a sawmill that operated locally years ago. It was dismantled and put in storage with the intent to eventually re-build it as part of the museum.
