It is permanently displayed at Carnforth Railway Station, Platform 2, Lancashire, UK.

In 1997, this bird was on the edge of extinction in the UK with only 11 males left, but thanks to dedicated conservation, it had increased to 167 males in 2017.

The Mole Vanvitelliana in Ancona, Le Marche, Italy.
Also known as the Lazaretto, this 18th-century building was constructed on an artificial island in Ancona Port to serve as a quarantine station and Leprosarium. 1733-1743.
It was built to house possibly infected travellers, goods arriving in the port, and lepers.
Now renovated, it's the site of the Tattile Omero Museum and holds exhibitions.

Gelsomino and Mohan is a ceramic by Halima Cassell MBE, 2022. Unglazed stoneware. Part of her Reflections exhibition at Blackwell, Windermere, Cumbria, 8 July 2023 - 1 January 2024.
A mesmerising exhibition showcasing many sculptures, drawings, collages and wallpapers.
Halima Cassell (b1975) has become an internationally renowned artist. Reflections is an accumulation of artworks made over the past three decades and intimately expresses the story of the artist’s life and artistic journey.
Her heritage, plus natural forms and textures, influences the distinctive geometric patterns that form the sculptures.
Cassell’s sculptures are made from unglazed ceramic, bronze, and cast iron materials.

Quite strange, considering the far from South climate, but until the beginning of the 20th century, Vladimir cherries were famous far beyond the borders of this region. In its heyday, there were about 400 cherry orchards.
In 1768, Russian scientist and traveler Ivan Lepekhin, staying in Vladimir, wrote:
From unaccustomedness it was difficult to sleep. At night in the city, which is full covered with cherry orchards, not for a second is silent the pounding of mallets, which Vladimirites use to drive birds away from ripe cherries.

Gift Horse
4th Plinth at Trafalgar Square, London. Bronze sculpture by Hans Haacke. On display from 4th March 2015.
Hans Haacke’s Gift Horse depicts a skeletal, riderless horse - a comment on the equestrian statue of William IV originally planned for the plinth (which was never done because of a lack of funds).
It's also a political commentary on the ravages of the stock market post-Banking Crisis and the economic austerity programmes that followed - there's no flesh on these bones.
Tied to the horse’s front leg is an electronic ribbon displaying a live ticker of the London Stock Exchange, completing the link between power, money and history. The horse is derived from an etching by George Stubbs, the famous English painter whose works are represented in the National Gallery at Trafalgar Square. He was also a contemporary of Adam Smith and his invisible hand.
This was the 10th artwork to be displayed on the 4th Plinth.

Bonsai Vines
Ancient Monastrell bush vines at Bodega Enrique Mendoza in Alicante DO, Spain, in winter. Heat-loving grape variety, aka Mourvèdre, Mataro, and several other names.
These vines are approaching 100 years old, but because they grow in a desert at altitude and rely mainly on snow melt, most of the plant is underground, with deep root systems penetrating the underlying limestone. There is no irrigation; the vines are dry-farmed organic. Grape yields are correspondingly low. The wine quality is superb.

The Ring O' Bells
A bellringer's view. Looking up into the Belfry of the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Fairford, Gloucestershire. There are 7 bell ropes here - one is missing.
The bells are mounted in the tower within a steel or wood bell frame above the vaulted ceiling, and each bell is suspended from a headstock fitted to bearings so that the bell may rotate. Each bell is a different size, so it sounds a different note when struck.
The headstock is fitted with a wooden stay, which, in conjunction with a slider, limits maximum rotational movement to just over a full circle and allows the bell to be set or rested mouth uppermost. A large wheel is fitted to the headstock, and the rope wraps and unwraps as the bell rotates backwards and forwards. Within the bell is a clapper that strikes the thickest part of the bell mouth, called the soundbow.
In English, ringing a set of bells is known as a "ring of bells."
The ringers stand in a ringing chamber below, and the ropes pass through holes in the ceiling. The rope has a woollen grip called the sally, while the lower end of the rope is doubled over to form an easily held tail end. The result, in skilled hands, is music.
Bells hung in this way enabled English Change ringing in the 17th century because the striking interval of each bell could be controlled. England has over 5,000 "ring o' bells" and an estimated 40,000 bell ringers.

The Hellfire Club
Medmenham Abbey, on the banks of the River Thames in Buckinghamshire, was once known for being the venue for The Hellfire Club, for Rakes. Dissolution, in more ways than one.
A Cistercian abbey was founded in Medmenham in the 12th century under the ownership of Woburn Abbey, though it was not officially recognised by royal charter until 1200. It was dedicated to St. Mary but closed in 1536.
In 1547, at the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the abbey was seized and given to the Moore family and then sold privately to the Duffields. It was while in the possession of the Duffields that the abbey became infamous as the location of The Hellfire Club, headed by Sir Francis Dashwood, formerly called the Monks of Medmenham who used it for "obscene parodies of religious rites" according to one source, between the mid 1700s and 1774, though the club was already in disrepute by 1762. During that era, it was renovated to resemble a Gothic building. Eventually, the meetings were moved out of the abbey.
Dashwood had leased the ruins of the abbey from the Duffield family. After the Club was defunct (by 1763), the property was sold to the Chief Justice of Chester. In 1898 the building was modified, and since then it has no longer resembled an abbey. Subsequent renovations were completed in the 20th century.
Today the building is a private residence and is not open to the public. The property has been Grade II listed since 1955.

L' Albufera de València means "lagoon" in Valèncian, (from Arabic البحيرة al-buhayra, "small sea"), is a freshwater lagoon and estuary on the Gulf of València coast about 10km from the City.
The natural biodiversity of the nature reserve allows a great variety of flora and fauna to thrive and be observed year-round. Though once a saltwater lagoon, dilution due to irrigation, canals draining into the estuary and the sand bars increasing in size meant that it had converted into freshwater by the seventeenth century.

The Cricketers Arms, Coney Lane, Keighley.
Grade II Listed, dating from the early 1800's. Originally called the Sportsman until 1874 when it became the Cricketers Arms.
The pub sign is of Sir Len Hutton, Yorkshire CCC 1934-55, and England 1937-55.
OBIT: A beacon of hope in a sea of dereliction, I was deeply saddened to find that it closed for good on 12 March 2022.
Dante's vineyard - Vaio Armaron
The Vaio Armaron vineyard, now owned by the Masi wine group via the Serego Alighieri brand, produces Valpolicella and Vaio Armaron Amarone. Gargagnago, (near Verona), Veneto, Italy.
The Serego Alighieri estate has the longest historical, cultural and winemaking tradition in Valpolicella, dating back over 650 years.
It all began in 1353 when Pietro Alighieri, son of the Poet Dante (who had followed his father into exile in Verona from Tuscany), bought the already famous Casal dei Ronchi property in Gargagnago. Ownership stayed in the hands of 21 generations of Dante's descendants until it became part of the Masi wine group in 1973.

Garlic
Allium sativum has long been used as a seasoning, with a history of several thousand years of human consumption. It was known to ancient Egyptians and has been used as a food flavouring and in traditional medicine. These examples were grown organically in Cumbria.
There are hundreds of varieties of garlic, most notably split into the subspecies of hardneck (var. Ophioscorodon) and softneck (var. Sativum).
In this still-life photo, the two bulbs on the left are softneck, and those on the right are hardneck. The softneck bulbs here originate from Georgia, while the hardnecks are from Ukraine.
