My final sunset for a while.
Taken the day before my shoulder surgery on the 3rd and as a storm was rolling in from the ocean, what a sunset it was!
Neat: The Room
This is a small room attached to my bedroom. It is nice and neat because I once used it for a studio. After a year in the photography business, I have realized, I do not like studio work. It is too confining and staged. I will shoot your bear on this chair in this room if you want though!

There are so many shots of Bangkok floodings these days so I thought I would post something else.
These are 3 towers along the Chao Praya river in Bangkok.
The towers are on the Thon Buri side, and the shot is taken from Taksin Pier.
The first tower to left is The River, a new high-rise condo under construction
The middle one is the Peninsula hotel.
The third one is the Millenium Hilton Hotel.
North Korean soldier at the DMZ - North Korea
September 2011
You can see if there is tension or not by looking at what the north korean soldier wear on the head: a cap = everything is quiet, a helmet = they are on red alert.
The Korean Demilitarized Zone is a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula that serves as a buffer zone between North and South Korea. The DMZ cuts the Korean Peninsula in half, crossing the 38th parallel on an angle, with the west end of the DMZ lying south of the parallel and the east end lying north of it. It is 155 miles (248 km) long and approximately 2.5 miles (4 km) wide, and is the most heavily armed border in the world.
This isolation has created as a byproduct one of the most well-preserved pieces of temperate land in the world!!
The 2 countries have signed armistice but NOT the peace...

I'm Back!
About a thousand images to work through (what with stitching and different exposures). Probably end up with about 30 in the end. It's going to take some time to do. Off out tonight, but managed to make a start. The week had more rain and cloud than blue sky and sun.
Just soft grads used here. Waited an hour in the rain - it wasn't stopping, so got on with some shots anyway. Great fun changing lenses in a plastic bag, a quick wipe of the front grad filer before a quick exposure before the droplets would get on the filter

Miss Gale, Karrayyu tribe - Ethiopia
The Karrayyu are a pastoralist tribe from Ethiopia living in the Awash Valley, around the volcano of Mount Fentale and the Metehara Plain. They belong to the larger ethnic group of the Oromos, who represent the majority (32 per cent) of the ethiopian population. It is said the Karrayyu arrived in the area 200 hundreds years ago, during the so called « great expansion », of the Oromo, during which Oromo settled in different parts of Ethiopia,. This led to cultural diversification. In spite of local differences between those subgroups, they share the same Cushistic language (Afaan Oromo) religion (Waaqeffata) and governance system (Gada). The Karrayyu are one of the last Oromo ethnic subgroups to follow these rules and to preserve the original Oromo lifestyle and culture, and its pastoralist way of life.
There are only 10 000 to 55 000 Karrayyus (because of their nomadic lifestyle it is difficult to have precise figures) whereas they used to be 200 000 at the beginning of the 20th century. Karrayyu are on the verge of instinction. Such a drop was due to the persecutions the Oromos, including the Karrayyu people had to face during Menelik’s II reign (1889-1913). This emperor, from the Amhara ethnic group led the unification of Ethiopia, and imposed the Amhara rule to the Oromos. Later, during the 20th century, the Karrayyu were deprived of most of their lands because of the establishment of national parks and modern farms. In the last four decades, Karrayyu’s were dispossed from 70 per cent of their land, including their shrines, by the government to make sugar and cotton plantations.
Struggle for grazing lands and water resources is a constant and daily challenge for the Karrayyus. This results in conflicts with neighbouring tribes such as the Afar or the Argoba, but also with some other Oromos ethnic subgroups such as the Arsi Oromo. Clashes between herders from these tribes are pretty common, and sometimes people even get shot. Incidents occur about the possession or when some herders raid the cattle from another tribe. Last years these conflicts have intensified as the number of available grazing lands has cut down. Indeed, overgrazing (involved by the recent of growth of the area’s population) leads to soil erosion. The degradation of the rangelands intensifies the pratice of cattle raiding which is already deeply rooted in the culture of the tribes in this area. Some grazing lands have even been abandoned by the Karrayyus in fear of violent conflicts.
Religion
The traditional Karrayyu religion is Waaqeffata, which is a monotheistic religion based on belief in a supreme being called « Waaqa ». This religion is closely related to the natural world as the Oromo pray to Waaqa at sites believed to be particularly blessed. However Kaarrayyu are muslim. Their religion consists in a syncretism of and Waaqa. Islam is the religion of 40 per cent of the Oromo people, including the Karrayyus.
Unfortunately the Karrayyu are also famous for the female genital cutting the women have to face and suffer from. According to the 2005 Ethiopian Demographic Health Survey, more than 74 per cent of women between the age of 15 and 49 have undergone some form of genital mutilation and cutting. Parents believe this practice guarantees their young daughter’s virginity, which is a prerequisite for an honourable marriage.

In the Mood: Inquisitive
I often wonder.......actually too often and one of the subjects on my mind is forgiveness. Why must people pay for forgiveness? Some may say that they forgive, but making the person pay by doing the same onto them......one bad cycle which makes forgiveness a cycle of debit repayment making us all broke.

Blessing the Rings
This is one from a wedding I shot about a month ago. Before the exchanging of the wedding rings the minister held them up and blessed the rings with a prayer. I had free reign as the photographer so I was able to get right up behind the minister and snap this shot. It was shot at high ISO and was rather underexposed so I had to doctor it quite a bit and while I was fixing it I decided it was a good candidate for some fun editing. So here's the final product. The couple is the older couple you see in the background. A widow and a widower both in their mid-seventies. It was probably the funnest wedding I have ever shot!

Bachelor party photo shoot
Shot from a bachelor party photo shoot. The boys wanted a calendar of the groom to give to the bride. This is november. We also had a stylist who did his makeup - As it turns out: Because she did such a good job with the makeup literally no retouching was necesarry on his skin in photoshop. From now on I am going to refer to retouching as "pre-photo retouching (makeup)" and "post-photo retouching (photoshop clone and heal)".
Lot's of fun to do, but doing a photo shoot with 1. drunk participants and 2. a drunk "model" is not easy....

Up at 4am last Sunday and drove to Holy Island. This was the only day when I could get on with the tide going out and crossing clear. Morning Glory - Kinderdijk
During the day tons of busloads at the Kinderdijk to see and photograph the famous windmills. But coming here before 5:30am, when no one is there, when blue, cold, first light is coming up, the water still clear without any movement, you can still make pictures that hopefully can make a difference in what we normally see from here.
Speaking about a difference, also during the day you can create something different.
I live far from here, so it's obvious that i stayed here the night in a hotel not that far from the Windmills.
Enjoy...

Tasman Toren - Groningen
The Tasman Tower is a structural accommodation building with 24 storeys on a prominent site on the edge of Groningen, near the junction of three important waterways. Two mutually linked towers over 75 metres high accommodate 218 apartments of varying size. Deep black aluminium frames delineate the façades of the apartments and emphasise the view over the city and surroundings.
My hometown is almost 1000 year old and modern architecture is ruling the town more and more for the last 20 years. Our Groninger Museum is one of these new modern looking buildings. And now since last year we have this, the Tasman Tower.
There are still some apartments for sale....if you have some money left 😉

Karo tribe girl - Ethiopia
Last month when i visited Korcho village in Karo tribe, tension was high: the tribe had a fight with the Nyangatom who live on the other side of the Omo river, and one man was killed. A cattle problem as usual. So the Karos know the Nyangatom will attack them, as revenge is the base of the relationship in the area!
The Karo (or Kara), with a population of about 1000 - 1500 live on the east banks of the Omo River in south Ethiopia.
Their neighbors are the Hamar,Bana,Bashada, the famous Mursi and Nyangatom (on the other side of Omo river, who are their enemies ) . They speak a south Omotic language.
The Karo grow sorghum ,maize and beans .
Karo use to paint body and decorate their face. They use white chalk, charcoal, ochre and red earth.. Karo women scarify their chests to beautify themselves .The scarification of a man's chest shows that he has killed an enemy or a dangerous animal. The scars are done with a knife or razor blade and ash is rubbed into.
The wearing of a grey and ochre clay headdress also indicates the killing of an enemy or a dangerous animal. Hamar do the same.
The women have a very nice hairdress: they put red clay mixed with butter and fat in their hair, so that the hair looks like a bunch of coffee beans. Women still wear leather clothing made from animal skins.
The men all use a wood headrest to protect their hair bun, and they use it too to sit.
They love to rest under the men house, the chifo. At the end of the harvest and at times of initiation and marriage, the Karo come together to enjoy dances with a lot of local beer. These happy times often lead to marriage after the young man has successfully accompling the bull jumping. A Karo man may take as many wives as he can afford, but usually he marries two or three.

Limestone and Tree
Had a few hours walking up at Malham this afternoon after watching the Test Match. Not a case of park and a quick walk to this (400 yards from road). A herd of cows were running amok in the field, so I parked a mile up the road and used the footpath
Took a few pictures whilst there (never saw another soul). When the sun was out (briefly), the clouds were not so good - they could have been less dominant. Messed on processing this for ages and still not happy, even trying another sky from the day!

Mucubal Woman With Ompota Headdress, Virie Area, Angola
Mucubal especially women, are famous for the way they dress. The latter wear an original and unique headdress called the Ompota. It is made of a wicker framework, traditionally filled with a bunch of tied cow tails, decorated with buttons, shells, zippers and beads. But tradition is disappearing as some women use barbie dolls boxes to cram their ompota headdress. Women whether they are married or not can wear jewels. Ornaments like iron anklets, called Othivela, and armlets, called Othingo, are worn by girls as well as adult women. Mucubal women are also famous for the string they have around their breast, called oyonduthi, which is used as a bra. Women use to smoke tobacco (that they keep in a snuffbox called boceta) in pipes called opessi.

Across the sea
The Øresund or Öresund Bridge (Danish: Øresundsbroen, Swedish: Öresundsbron, joint hybrid name: Øresundsbron) is a combined twin-track railway and dual carriageway bridge-tunnel across the Øresund strait.
The bridge connects Sweden and Denmark, and it is the longest road and rail bridge in Europe. The Øresund Bridge also connects two major Metropolitan Areas: those of the Danish capital city of Copenhagen and the major Swedish city of Malmö. Furthermore, the Øresund Bridge connects the road network of Scandinavia with those of Central and Western Europe.

Timeless
A different take on The Watchman from the Watchman Campground at Zion National Park. I decided that I liked the clouds rolling through and thought they were an ideal fit for a shot with the ND110 and an 8x ND filter on top of that. I think the shot is somewhat unique and that's what I like about it most.
Delicate Arch
Delicate Arch at Arches National Park. After a moderately difficult hike up to the arch we gathered with the horde of people for sunset. This was the only time I was able to get a "clean" shot without people. What a spectacular scene for the arch that was supposed to be named Skyline Arch (there was a mixup a long time ago). One of the truly beautiful sunsets you can capture in Arches.

Radar station from 2. world war
In the middle of the meadow at Fræer are remnants of an ugly square house in raw concrete. In its heyday - or maybe it's more correct to call it his "wehrmachtsdage", the house was called "hunting lodge".
It was during the war, as there was a large and highly secret radar station.
Hefra Germans could watch a sky that stretched well into the Skagerrak, North Sea, most of the Kattegat and south down to Kolding.
Radar
The radar station was not created for just capturing Allied aircraft on his way over Denmark, but also to redirect the approximately 400 German night fighters that were stationed in Denmark and Schleswig.
Gradually widened radar station repeatedly - and to substantial wonderment for local population not surmised what they large antennae and parabolas did good for. Eventually covering the entire meadow and slopes up towards Fræer - and everything was closed.
It was only when it few days after liberation took over the radar station that you were aware of how far-reaching and important, it had been.
Of the eighteen radatstationer which the Germans had in Denmark was Fræer the greatest.
Hunting castle
As some local freedom fighters and an English officer "took" station, they were saluted with full view into the camp commandant, who was in her fanciest clothes - a freshly ironed uniforms and totally spotless, beautifully curved cap and swastika on his chest. It was quite a contrast to the Englishman, who was casually in a batteldres who had not seen an iron for a long time. Carelessness disappeared, however, with one, when the German commander and his aide was "Heil Hitler" and showed the Englishman and the Danish mads tooth people into the holy of holies, here sat there nearly 40 beautifully uniformed German girls, and plotted airplanes onto cards and monitors that the war was still in full swing.
It was like the English "savior soldier" grew out of the ground and very short and authoritatively made commandant and tilstædeværende aware that the war was over.
Germany had capitulated, Hitler was dead and there was no longer something called "Heil Hitler".
When they left it completely intact camp, was the Englishman full of wonder and said: "This had never happened to us. We had destroyed everything!"
Now there is not much left of the camp, but "hunting castle" still stands, and that is not how to get rid of - by now it probably also become history, and as such it is perhaps worthy of preservation.
The word "hunting castle" was an expression of the locals' penchant for nicknames. The same thing was the camp, of course, also got an apt name with a dash of humor and irony, namely: "Bette Berlin"
After the war, "Bette Berlin" was used as a refugee camp. At one point were nearly 250,000 German refugees in Denmark who could not automatically sent homes.
As was expanded camp at Fræer with large wooden barracks, then the administrative experience and houses more than 2,000 detainees.
There were women, children and men, but men were outnumbered and there was strict segregation between the sexes.
There are many stories in Fræer about how the village youth bengler sneak through the barbed wire of the camp girls who obviously missed male company.
In the two years the camp was used as a refugee, was born 29 children inside the barbed wire. Fathers were shown sought outside!
The detainees in the camp, nearly all from the East German regions: East Prussia, West Prussia, Danzig and Pomerania. In relation to the circumstances as they would have had behind the Iron Curtain, they had it good - apart from the internal ring.
Mon closely monitored, they were given 2,000 calories a day, and you put it even up to 2,500 calories. In July 1946, when the camp's population was at its peak, was a week spent 5 tonnes of bread, seven tons of potatoes, ½ tons of meat, ½ ton swedes and 100 kg of salt. Vegetables cultivated even in camp.
Not only catering was good, even health were impeccable, but the camp also had its own German doctor, dentist and caregivers.

Kumari Bahal
Meaning "house of the living goddess".
The Kumari is a young girl that is believed to be the earthly incarnation of Kali, and as such is considered a living goddess by the Nepalese.
She keeps this title until she reaches puberty when she is thought to revert to mortal form again.

Durbar Square Kathmandu
This area is where the Kings were once crowned and where they ruled from. It is a fascinating place and full of Hindu shrines. The area is heritage listed and a stunning example of Nepalese ancient architecture. The Kumari resides within this square. She is regarded as a living goddess amongst the Nepalese.
Praying
This lady was spotted as she walked around the Stupa. She spins the prayer wheels as she goes. In her hand you can see a Mala, a string containing 108 beads. It is used to keep track of how many mantras have been recited, much like the Christian rosary.

These colourful flags reach to the top of the Buddhist Stupas. They contain Buddhist mantras as a prayer offering.
Prayer Wheels
These are the prayer wheels that line the outside of the Buddhist Stupas in Nepal. They have the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum written on them. These ones are from the Swayambhunath Stupa.
Om Mani Padme Hum
This is the Buddhist mantra which means "Hail to the jewel in the lotus". It is inscribed on the prayer wheels that surround the Bodhnath Stupa in Kathmandu.
This lady is spinning the prayer wheels as she makes her way around the Stupa.

Hamer man - Turmi Ethiopia
I took a picture of him during the weekly market of Turmi. Later, i was searching for a Uta in the countryside (a bride who is kept in a house for month before wedding, to make her fat...) , i found one, and this man was also in the village. it was 30 kilometers from Turmi!
The Hamar is a catlle herder tribe which lives on the Eastern side of the Omo Valley in Southern Ethiopia. Honey collection is their major activity and their cattle is the meaning of their life. There are at least 27 words for the subtle variations of colours and textures of a cattle ! And each man has three names: a human, a goat and a cow name.

Wet Sand
On the Beach amidst the Bedruthan Steps in Cornwall. It is a treacherous place. Two hours before high tide, the beaches are completely covered by the large waves from the Atlantic Ocean. The beaches end in a cliff face, rising about 20-30 meters straight up. A flight of stairs is the only way up to safety (except for a secret difficult to climb path some distance away from the stairs, which would be impossible to reach when the waves splash against the cliff face.

Magere Brug - Theater Carre - Amsterdam
Spending an evening in Amsterdam shooting blue hour.
The famous skinny bridge across the river Amstel and opposite of the Carré Theatre, is an Old Dutch design wooden bridge known as a double-swipe (balanced) bridge. Tradition relates that the bridge was named after the sisters Mager, who were supposed to live on opposite sides of the river. They are said to have had the wooden bridge built to make it easier to visit one another. However it appears more likely, that the original bridge acquired the name from being so narrow (mager means skinny in Dutch), that it was hard for two pedestrians to pass one along another.
As traffic along the river Amstel increased, a wider bridge replaced the narrow one in 1871. Skinny Bridge is far not skinny anymore, but one of the most beautiful bridges of Amsterdam. At night many lights illuminate the bridge, then it becomes a very romantic place, popular with lovers and photographers.

Forgotten
This shot was a real blast to make! I was walking through Vedauwoo State Park just after sunrise when I came across a bench with a handful of withered wildflowers that had been left there. Seeing it I thought it could make a powerful image so I picked a fresh Nuttall's Sunflower and started shooting. I wanted it to be a partial saturation with a high structure, gritty look, so I had to do a lot of reading etc to learn some new photoshop techniques since I don't have any plugins to automate the process. I was pleased because it came just as I had envisioned it to look when I first came upon the scene.

Alstrom Point - Lake Powell - Arizona
Alstrom Point provides one of the most memorable, scenic, and widely photographed views of Lake Powell. While the actual hiking at the point is limited, half of the enjoyment of this location is the trip to get there. Alstrom Point is very remote. Although you can see the city of Page, it will take you between 2 to 3 hours to get there. There is no gas along the way. The road is primarily on the Tropic Shale, which can turn to a mud bog after rain or snow. The last mile or two into Alstrom Point is over rough slickrock and not well marked in places.
This eye catching grand view from Alstrom Point looks out over Gunsight Butte, Padre Bay and the immense Lake Powell. You may need a high clearance four wheel drive here. Reaching this viewpoint may also prove a challenge for those without directions. One possible route from Big Water, Utah, begins on Warm Creek Road to Smoky Mountain Road (Rec Road 230). South on Rec Road 264, known to some as Alstrom Point Road; but to the Google folks, its labeled as Romana Mesard Road. A good sense of direction or a bit luck maybe needed on this adventure.
This image is taken at sunset and when leaving the place it went dark very fast and a GPS was needed to find the way back to US89. So when you go there, stay overnight or bring your GPS to help you out of this remote area.

White Pocket - Vermilion Cliffs
Once again an image from the White Pocket. Not only red rocks, lines and curves, but also beautiful pure white boulders which are in this case warmth up by early morning sunlight at 7:25am
I'm always intrigued by trees growing on strange places, hanging on to canyon walls, or in this case forcing their way out between a rocky surface.
Going to White Pocket is worth the drive, but to reach White Pocket requires driving 17 miles on a rough one lane cattle road through deep sand. If you attempt the drive, I strongly advise you to have a high clearance four-wheel drive vehicle capable of off-road driving in axle deep sand.
White Pocket is a small area (a pocket) of extreme eroded, swirling and twisted multicolored sandstone formations and slickrock dunes. Unlike the Wave, no permit is required. It’s remoteness and difficulty to reach keeps people away. Nevertheless, remember that it is an extremely fragile environment and the utmost care should be taken to preserve this beautiful place. This is a very remote area, there is no water, no restrooms and no shade.
I camped here overnight, enough time for sunset and sunrise photography.

Lower Calf Creek Falls - Grand Staircase-Escalante
The lower falls of Calf Creek were for many years one of the hidden, little visited attractions of southern Utah but since the creation of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument they have become quite well known. At the falls, the creek emerges from a V-shaped channel at the end of upper Calf Creek Canyon and cascades over a near-vertical cliff face into a large pool several feet deep, enclosed on three sides by sheer Navajo sandstone walls. Rocks closest to the water are covered in delicate patches of blue and green algae, all the nearby cliffs have long streaks of desert varnish and the whole scene is extremely beautiful.
There is little overall elevation change along the trail but it has some short, steep sections, is often unshaded and has a surface of mostly soft sand so the journey can be quite strenuous, and quite a few who set out turn back before reaching the waterfall. The round trip takes 3-4 hours according to the trailguide, but under 2 hours if walking quickly.

Sunrise Totem Pole - Monument Valley
I was staying a few days in Kayenta, a 30 min drive to the entry of MV and again a very early rise. From Kayenta to the entry of MV and with a local Navajo guide deep in to Monument Valley to shoot sunrise at Totem Pole. Great light, great colours with the sun peaking around the corner of Totem Pole.
Monument Valley is pure magic.

Devils Garden - Escalante - Utah
Did i had only nice sunny warm weather during my south-west trip? No, i also had rain and snowstorms and from the whole program i had to skip three parts because of bad weather, not that bad considering all the things that were on the list. This is inside Devils Garden, last part of late afternoon sunlight (image is taken around 6pm), while rain is already coming in from the distance. A few minutes later i was heading to the car, already wet from the bad weather that was coming in fast.

Hunts Mesa - Monument Valley
Not possible to go there on your own, you have to book a Navajo tour. And if the Navajo guide drives you up you understand why. You will kill your car in this few hour drive to get on top of the Mesa...only the journey up is already an adventure on it self. Camping overnight on top of the Mesa and at (sunset was not that special) sunrise seeing this in front of you...magical, not from this world, a big WOW.
Hunt's Mesa is the name, deep in to Monument Valley......go there if you can!

Wotan's Throne
Wotan's Throne is the prominent feature at Cape Royal on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. This photo was taken precariously closely to the edge of the rim in 40-50 mph winds. Thankfully it all worked out and I got one of my favorite shots of all time.
Royal Sunset
Sunset at Cape Royal on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.. One of my favorite places on Earth.
Point Imperial
Point Imperial is the highest point in Grand Canyon National Park. Located on the North Rim, it is the highest point in the park at 8803 feet above sea level. It's very windy but it's very worth the wake up.
Reflecting Purple River
The Colorado River after sunset at Desert View. I really like how the river seems to reflect the sky (and light up in general).
Rays & Ridges
The famous ridges at Desert View. The haze was very thick in the park and that worked to my advantage as the sun was setting. The scene was spectacular.
Palisades Sunset
Sunset at Desert View on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. This is a fantastic place because there are fewer tourists. The people who were shooting that evening were great and we had a lot of fun.
Dusk on the Palisades
Dusk at Desert View on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.
Mather Light
Early morning light on Mather Point on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. There was almost nobody there, which is amazing.
Sunset in Motion

Grouse Family in Rain
Phil had got a Canon 550D and wanted to try it, so we went to do he grouse - not much light, so we did a few and tried a few landscpae, just to see how the camera performed - images on the back of the camera looked pretty god - one of my efforts was this mum with half a dozen young.

Henrietta's Lillies
I took these after stopping and introducing myself to the lady whose garden they were in. She is about a 80 or 90 something year old lady who has planted a 20x40 foot swath of every color lily I have ever seen. They are tended to daily at sunrise and into sunset. She was so happy to show them all to me, and I was ecstatic to be able to shoot them and chat with her about one of her loves.

Wahweap Hoodoos - Towers Of Silence
A congregation of impossibly white rock spires topped with reddish-brown capstones, are quickly becoming one of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument’s most recognized formations. The hoodoos are generally described as three separate groupings—the White Hoodoo, Hoodoo Central, and the Towers of Silence. The three groups are separated by just a few miles and you can visit all three in one morning without a problem.
There are two ways to reach the trio of hoodoo groupings. You can hike 9.2-miles roundtrip from Big Water, Utah, or you can access them from the southern end of Cottonwood Canyon Road (located near Churchwells, Utah) for a mere 2-mile roundtrip trek. The mileage calculations mentioned here assume that you consider the Towers of Silence, the most interesting visually of the three groups, as your primary destination. Obviously, the longest route to the Towers of Silence is via Big Water and the shortest is from the Cottonwood Canyon Road access. Whichever route you choose, you will be hiking through Wahweap Wash, a normally dry, hot and shadeless trek—be prepared with adequate water, sunscreen, and protective clothing.
The hoodoos of the Towers of Silence, rising like white ghosts, are breathtaking to behold—truly a wonder of the geological world. Spending close to an hour exploring the area, being careful not to disturb or damage the delicate formations with our feet or tripod legs, before returning to the car.
{source}
Morning light brings the best light for photography. I arrived here before sunrise and wanted first light striking the hoodoos while the background was still in the shade. Long drive from Page (a large part over a very bad road), and a 30 min walk through the wash. Again out of bed at 03:45am, but seeing this great play of mother nature in early morning light was worth the early rise.

Fire Cave - Windstone Arch - Valley of Fire
Fire Cave, sometimes referred to as Windstone Arch, can be found in Valley of Fire State Park, about 1 hour from Las Vegas, Nevada. The “Windstone Arch” is located on the gravel loop near the campground. The arch is in a mini wind tunnel formed out of Sandstone rock. It's a standalone rock formation start looking inside the cavity of the rock where the wind and erosion has removed the rock base.
When i crawled inside the little cave i noticed how small it was (i'm probably too big for places like this) and could hardly move once being inside of it. I used a silver light reflector in the background to give me some light on the little arch and some light in the foreground.
